Chief Executive, CIOL and IoLET

Ann joined CIOL in 2013, initially to oversee delivery of IoLET's language qualifications, and became Chief Executive in 2014, overseeing all aspects of the organisation. Ann brings extensive senior leadership experience in government, education and the public sector. She was responsible for establishing the Metropolitan Police Service's first language development and accreditation strategy and spent several years as Director of the Foreign & Commonwealth Office's worldwide language development programme for Diplomats and civil servants. Passionate about languages and their vital role in education and the economy, Ann understands the importance of ensuring professional recognition for CIOL members using languages in their daily work and of providing routes into the profession and to qualification at all levels.

Mr Rob Beswick


Head of Membership, CIOL

Rob joined CIOL in 2019 as Head of Membership, responsible for both membership retention and growth strategy for CIOL. He works closely with CIOL's membership as well as a number of Committees and Boards to improve the member’s experience and is continually looking for new ways to support the linguistic community. Previous to joining CIOL, he held a number of roles during his time at the Service Desk Institute (SDI) including Events, Corporate Partnerships, Members' Services and, most recently, as the Head of Membership and Product Development.


Head of Qualifications, IoLET

Ela graduated in Russian at the University of Nottingham and worked as a Foreign Exchange dealer in the City of London before joining IoLET in 2001. She was appointed to develop robust examination management strategies covering all aspects of delivery, with a particular focus on candidate and centre experience prior to QCA accreditation in 2003. During her 18 years with the organisation, Ela has gained in-depth knowledge of IoLET’s qualifications and has played an integral role in the modernisation and change of the organisation. In February 2015 she became Head of Qualifications and is responsible for leading and managing the qualifications team and ensuring that all examinations are rigorously prepared and securely delivered to safeguard the quality and reputation of IoLET and its qualifications.

Communications and Marketing Manager, CIOL and IoLET

Debbie joined CIOL in 2014 after holding a number of marketing roles in the classical music, music education and not-for-profit sectors where she gained experience of communications, marketing and promotional strategies. She also has experience of brand development and representing organisations externally, both in the UK and internationally. In her role at the UK's chief music examining board, Debbie gained experience of promoting exams and working with examiners and educators. It was a keen interest in languages and other cultures that attracted Debbie to the communications role at CIOL. She works across both CIOL and IoLET, organising events and campaigns to raise the profile of the organisation through all communications channels.

Business Development Manager

Dom joined CIOL in 2018 with a remit to raise further the profile of CIOL and to develop and expand IoLET’s range of world-class qualifications internationally. Dom’s background is in professional translation technology: for the last three years he was responsible for the UK corporate and government markets for SDL Trados, the number one translation memory and terminology software. Dom is a passionate linguist; he is bilingual in Italian and English as well as fluent in French and Spanish, with a smattering of German and Portuguese. Mandarin is next on his list! Dom is a firm believer in the value of learning languages and the benefits they bring in understanding and appreciating other cultures, as well as in facilitating international business relationships.
