The CIOL Hong Kong Society (HKS) was established in 1984. It strives for promotion of professional language use in the Hong Kong region and provides opportunities for members to share views on language issues. By organising bimonthly professional development activities such as talks and forums, the society gathers members, academics and specialists to take part in in-depth discussions on various language topics. It also provides a platform for local members to exchange their views on language issues through regular publications. Recently, it has successfully launched the prestigious "Chartered Linguist" status in Hong Kong. Through a special arrangement with CIOL's head office in London, qualified members may now complete the whole application process in Hong Kong without going to the UK.
HKS contributes to the local languages industry through its professional language services. For example, it has organised forums, symposiums and talks on school media of instruction to examine relevant government policies and explore strategies that schools and parents may adopt. In addition, HKS has been invited to participate in large-scale exhibitions and offer training courses for teachers in tertiary institutions, secondary and primary schools on the Chinese mainland. It provides diversified consultancy and language assessment services as well.
HKS is the largest regional society of CIOL. We will put every effort into furthering our professional services in mainland China, in order to enhance language standards.
You are welcome to learn more about us through our own trilingual website.
